I do not think this in entirely true. In many developing countries,
motorisation is a very new trend and most of the cars have been purchased
in last 8 to 10 years ( this is true for india). Therefreo, the share of
old cars is relatively low. For example, only 10 to 15% of car fleet is
Delhi is pre 1981 fleet.
What may be true is that the technology used for the cars are old and the
emissions are high

We have this info for Delhi. I will pull out some of these numbers. In
Delhi trips on public transport are 62%. Vehicle ownership as I said one
per household including SC+MC.
