I agree with what Ian has to say. Installation of a pelican crossing in a
city like Hyderabad or any Indian city where traffic and pedestrian
behaviour is erratic and without much enforcement, would be nothing short of
disaster.

Other systems that including a traditional mid-block pedestrian crossing,
HAWK signals (that have been in use in the US) and other signal systems
would also not amount to much. All of these systems would need maintenance
expenditure, power back-up, utility relocation and setup that could be
better used on separate pedestrian/walkable solutions.
