Carbon Markets India.

Carbon Expert Interview

Amongst these experts is Pamposh Bhat, director of climate change at GTZ,
who is assisting the Ministry of Environment and Forests to prepare the
Indian market for carbon trading. In this 60 second interview, Ms Bhat
shares her views on the immediate challenges facing the industry.

What do you and your organisation do in the Carbon Markets sector?
GTZ, CDM-India is in carbon market development in India.

What is the biggest challenge facing the Indian Carbon Markets in the
short term (1-3 years)?
The biggest challenge is public sector participation in the carbon market
and low awareness among the industry.

Do you think India is well positioned to benefit from CDM projects in the
short term when compared to other countries/regions?
Yes we are, but we need to formulate long term strategies to get post 2012
advantage

What do you consider to be the most interesting CDM developments and
biggest challenges in India at this time?
India offers a good environment for foreign investment but still no
investments are coming in through the CDM route. We look forward to Tech
Transfer of clean and efficient technologies, Forming Joint Ventures (JVs)
for manufacturing operations with equity participation in Projects for GHG
reduction.

How would you like India to be involved in any ‘son of Kyoto’ system?
India has set a shining example in CDM under Kyoto Process. The Government
of India will define its strategy post 2012 in Bali at CoP13/MoP3. Keep
watching.
