A two day training course on Bus Rapid
Transit Planning was held by GTZ-SUTP, Surananee University and OTP in
Nakhorn
Ratchasima, Thailand during June 14-15, 2007. The course was developed

enhance knowledge from Thai cities’ governments on BRT characteristics
(which
was the main focus of the first day) and to deepen on technical aspects
of BRT
planning for Thai technical staff from cities (focus during the second

Pardo visited Pereira (Colombia) with NBRTI delegates from US. Pereira
has the
second BRT system in Colombia, modeled after TransMilenio (Bogotá's
BRT) and
with 25.5 kms of trunk lines. The system is also becoming a model for
medium-sized cities in Latin America and other cities, since it is
adapted to
the needs of such a city (unlike TransMilenio, which has been designed
for a
large city of 8 million inhabitants).<o:p></o:p></span></p>

Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) is a
major instrument to promote climate change mitigation projects in
developing
countries. It was set up under the Kyoto Protocol and allows developed
countries to meet parts of their greenhouse reduction targets by
investing in
emissions reducing projects in developing countries. GTZ has developed
a module
on this topic, prepared by Dr. Jürg M. Grütter, which summarises the
core
issues of CDM transport projects and presents the Transmilenio BRT as a
case
