Thanks for the references and mail. We would have a look at it.

Well we started our research based on one of the papers which refers to that
report by "The Ministry of Urban Development, Government of India, New Delhi
1998  - Traffic and Transportation Policies and Strategies in Urban Areas in
India" .

This recommends *Desirable modal split for Indian cities of various sizes!!*

Thanks a lot. We would be glad if somebody can mail us the urban ministry
report.
