Dear sustran-discussers

As one of the two list managers it was disappointing to see that sustran-discuss had a nasty feedback loop last night east Asian time. Many apologies for the distress and annoyance caused. 

Thanks to those who tried to do something about it. Fortunately, my co-manager, Karl, was up late and was able to take action. I hate to think how many more messages might have clogged the system otherwise. 

The safeguards are pretty good on sustran-discuss and they usually seem to catch these things. But not this time. So we need to improve the prevention. 


TEMPORARY (possibly permanent) SOLUTION

I have just changed a key setting on the list. 

Starting with replies to this message, REPLIES TO SUSTRAN-DISCUSS MESSAGES WILL BY DEFAULT GO TO THE SENDER OF THE MESSAGE, NOT THE WHOLE LIST. 

IF YOU WANT TO REPLY TO THE WHOLE LIST THEN PLEASE COPY AND PASTE THE LIST ADDRESS (sustran-discuss at list.jca.apc.org). "REPLY TO ALL" SHOULD ALSO WORK I THINK. 

I hope this solution is not too inconvenient. I think it is probably worth it, in order to prevent such nasty loops like last night's.
