Dear Colleagues,

Those of you interested in the potential of travel plans/demand management/soft policies to reduce car trips and switch travel choices into walk/cycle and public transport will be interested in 2 related reports both of which will be launched at a seminar in London on Thursday 11th April.

One of the main conclusions will be of particular interest:

A UK government report on the effectiveness of company transport plans (DTLR, 2002) concluded:

"Averaged overall these organisations managed to reduce the numbers of cars arriving at their sites by more than 14 per 100 staff- more than an 18% reduction in the number of cars that were previously there. Sixteen of the travel plans cut car use by more than 10%, five by more than a fifth and two by more than 50%"

The above quote is from the first of these reports.

The second report is:

"Using the planning process to secure travel plans: best practice guidance".

These reports are not yet finalised so keep an eye on the DTLR web site for final versions.

very best wishes

John Whitelegg
