Dear John,

The Journal article is "Hazard proximities of childhood cancers in Great
Britain from 1953 - 1980", written by EG Knox and EA Gilman.

It appeared in the Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health
1997;51;151-159

It concluded:

"Childhood cancers are geographically associated with two main types of
industrial atmospheric effluent namely: (1) petroleum dreived volatiles
and (2) kiln and furnace smoke and gases, and effluents from internal
combustion engines."

Contact details are: Professor EG Knox, Mill Cottage, Great Comberton,

PS. I read your chapter on time pollution the other day and was most
impressed. Thank you for writing it

Christine Laurence
